Opportunity Or Passion,Which Do You Prefer?
In starting out on our career path alot of us choose opportunity over passion. But sometimes it does ends up being the other way round after a couple of years on the sidelines. The circle always start with being admitted to study a course you didn't apply for because you couldn't attain the cut-off mark of the course after your heart.
Friends will always advice you to go for what is readily available, instead of you waiting longer years to get your dream course; because as they readily say "it doesn't matter what you read in Nigeria, it is the paper and connection that does." No wonder we have all seen microbiologist as on-air-personalities, lawyers working in a bank counters, ministers being assigned roles they are not fit for. The cycle keep repeating itself.
Passion starts to develop when after accepting your admission status in the university, you find out that you are not as intrigued to study the course given to you. Some people at this point quit, but others who cant, continue to find something i.e if they haven't found it; what their passion is for. No wonder we have seen lawyers as musical artist, architects as photographers etc. This people stayed the course, got the certificate and followed their passion. The famous one of the them is "FALZ," whose father Femi Falana is a renowned lawyer. Himself a lawyer as well choose to settle for the hoof and puff of celebrity life.
But there are times that opportunity has helped us discover our path. Which is why the smartest lawyers in school are not always the smartest on the field. A lot of us are opportunist naturally;if the line is drawn, we are ready to go any length in achieving success.
Does it pay to follow your passion, or can the opportunity be so big to turn down at times. We will look at that in my next article.
