Opportunity Or Passion,Which Do You Prefer?

In starting out on our career path alot of us choose opportunity over passion. But sometimes it does ends up being the other way round after a couple of years on the sidelines. The circle always start with being admitted to study a course you didn't apply for because you couldn't attain the cut-off mark of the course after your heart. Friends will always advice you to go for what is readily available, instead of you waiting  longer years to get your dream course; because as they readily say "it doesn't matter what you read in Nigeria, it is the paper and connection that does." No wonder we have all seen microbiologist as on-air-personalities, lawyers working in a bank counters, ministers being assigned roles they are not fit for. The cycle keep repeating itself. Passion starts to develop when after accepting your admission status in the university, you find out that you are not as intrigued to study the course given to you. Some people at this point quit, but

DSS, Buhari- Were They Right This Time?

The funny thing about democracy is that you can actually be guilty hiding under the ambit of the law. When your cover is blown, you cry foul and aim to be the victim of abuse of democratic process. Have you ever wondered why nobody cares about due process when it comes to charging a common criminal, and cry foul when Federal Judges who are supposed to uphold our political institutions are charged with corruption? Did the DSS have a search warrant to invade the judges homes at that time and is it constitutional as well as, did they come with a search warrant? According to them they did, and they are backed by law, as you can make a search  at anytime of the day provided the search warrant was signed by a judge, in this case the CJN. But an arrest can only be made from 6:00am -6:00pm at any given day. So why did they make the arrest at that hour and what did they find that e encouraged them to make an arrest at that time of the night, have to be proven in court.   Is it a pol

Strike Looms In Anambra

Enyim Enyim AWKA—The celebrated success in the security and crime sector of Anambra State by Governor Willie Obiano is currently under threat as the staff of the state vigilance services have vowed to embark on strike over non-payment of their two months salary arrears. Speaking to reporters, yesterday, in Awka, the workers said they were being owed August and September salaries and insisted they would go on strike if the state government failed to pay them any time soon. According to one of the officials who gave his name as Mr. Maxwell Nwoye, “we have done our best in ensuring safety of lives and property in Anambra State and everybody knows that the governor has zero tolerance for crime and all forms of brigandage. Some of us have died, some are hospitalised as a result of fighting crime, yet the authorities concerned have not found us worthy to be paid our entitlements. “Our members are not happy at all and we also learnt that the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security has

Local Government And Public Primary Education In Nigeria

Education has always being at the forefront of most government of the worlds economic plans, as well as Nigerias. But over the years most foreign countries have allocated as much as 20% of their budgetary allocation for the year to education. Same cannot be said of Nigeria, who contributes a paltry 5% to its education sector and a further 2% petroleum tax from oil companies to textiary institutions in the country. That is a topic for another day. The foundation of basic education has always been the primary school sector, where children are inculcated into the rudiments of intensive learning. Giving the local government primary responsibility of taking care of  public primary school is a good development, but over the years that function has being abused. From the late payment of salaries and the accumulation of unpaid salaries and bonuses, coupled with the incessant change of adminstration within the local government has all but deter the performance of most public primary school

Do We Still Have Heroes In Nigeria-Post Independence?

Excerpts from this years independence celebrations have got me wondering if we really still have heroes in our beloved country Nigeria. I got into a conversation with my father recently, he is an octogenarian and pretty vast in his knowledge of events back in the 60s till date.  He said " Nigeria wouldnt have been what it is now if not for heroes like Ahmadu Bello, Nnamdi Azikiwe(zik of Africa), Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Anthony Enahoro etc. People who put national interest ahead of personal interest, people who rallied the call for a united Nigeria and freed us from the strong grip of colonialism."  Of course one cannot argue with stories like this, but after independence we have  really shot ourselves on the foot with our choice of leadership, starting with the millitary regime and the countless coup. In recent times political elections havent being really free and fair and government fiscal and monetary policies havent been quite in line with each other.  With the count
