Why Are South Africans Xenophobic?

Having followed up the xenophobic attacks melted out by South Africans to fellow Africans, I cannot help but wonder what kind of world we live in. These attacks have been blamed on high rate of unemployment, strain on the resources of the country to carter for both its citizens and foreigners, and the high rate of crime by foreigners especially Nigerians. It is disheartening to hear of such stories simply because, every country has to deal with them sooner or later. It is a social problem commonly found among developing countries, so why is the South African citizens angry at their fellow Africans. I know some are against this trend but the majority of them share this believe. Is it not why the king of Zulu would Call foreigners"lice, that they should pack their loads and leave south Africa." I want to believe they don't have citizens in other Countries, otherwise, they would know how it feels when a xenophobic attack is melted on  them or their families, and the

Whistle Blowing 2

I remember stating after my last post on this topic, of how much I admired this program" whistle blowing," and how the Buhari government is consolidating on its anti-corruption fight. I also remember stating vividly, that I pray we don't use it against ourselves, and now it has happened. While this program was aimed at fishing out corrupt politicians, it doesn't hold water, that those in still in power will be protected when one of their cronies decide to bail the cat by reporting discrepancies and fraud of the apex bank of Nigeria through whistle blowing. And the government will try to sideline him. In fact, the said person, who is a former governorship aspirant of Lagos state, has been languishing in  DSS special cell, for reporting the fraud going on in the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN). For me, it is totally unacceptable and an insult to the people of Nigeria, that there has been some form of round tripping in the allocation of forex and the rate for its exchange t

Before We Crucify President Buhari

Everyone in life, go for checkup  at some point in time in their lives.  For our dear president Buhari, it is a precarious situation because of his age. While his whole vacation and medical checkup have been politicized, one cannot overlook the impending doom it spells for this country.     After leaving for London, our dear president handed over to Professor Yemi Osinbajo his vice as the acting president of our dear country. The political landscape and our constitution as two different things when a situation like this plays out. Why is that so? Generally an acting president is given the Powers to perform a variety of functions, but unlike signing of bills, heading the federal executive functions etc, the acting president has been a ceremonial one. Why some wouldn't want him to do major shake up because of the sensitivity of the situation at hand, there is nothing in the constitution that limits him from doing that. But the political landscape won't suggest that. If h

Social Media And Cheating

Social media is the buzz of the 21st century, while cheating is as old as man himself, together they are both among the current vibe  the world is facing right now. Cheating on its own have never being so rampant in any generation than in this generation. In fact, the rate of divorce has gone higher in this past year in Nigeria alone. And most of these cases are closely related to the use of social media. Nkiru a 26 year old mother of two narrated her story " That her problem started when she went through her husbands phone and checked his inboxes, that was how she got to know about her husbands infidelity with as much as four women." Her story is not different from a lot of other partners in relationships. Social media that was designed to bring us closer, have being abused and misused for other personal and self gratifying interest. Some people would not want to link social media to cheating, owning to the fact that; a cheat is a cheat, social media or not. But befo

Whistle Blowers

Before I started this piece, it has always bordered me, on how the Buhari's administration is going to fight corruption with the EFCC and ICPC alone. I always felt it was a daunting task considering the best agent for the job " Nuhu Ribadu" is no longer with the EFCC. Then I was brought back to reality that no one is irreplaceable. Corruption in Nigeria as we all know has many faces.  Beginning from our homes, to schools, into our markets and offices, up to the three tiers of government, corruption exist. Why people like us feel reorientation is pivot in us believing in our system again, the ICPC and EFCC has taken the fight against corruption to another level with the introduction of 2.5% to 5% compensation for " whistle blowers." Who are this people? They are those people who are closer to corrupt persons and couldn't take with a pinch of salt, the mindless looting of our politicians.  Therefore this program was drawn to accommodate this people

Before The 2face Protest

Almost everyone who has lived or grown up in Nigeria knows Innocent Idibia or "2face" as he is popularly called. Following his recent announcement  about a nationwide protest about the unbearable hardship the present Buhari government has melted on the average Nigerian, some political juggernaut are trying to politicize the whole exercise. Let me clearly state here,  it not his fault the former president David Mark is from his hometown, it is also not his fault that former governor Godswill Akpabio decided to give him and his wife Annie a gift of two SUVs on their wedding, owning to the fact that she is a daughter of the state. It is also not his fault Governor Ago Fayose choose to join the protest. A lot of medium has been pointing fingers at him for being to go on this protest. Even his estranged friend " black face". Femi Kuti have also been misquoted as saying " when I asked 2face who are the people that said you should protest? He didn't say.
