James Ibori Quagmire

After the release of former governor of delta state James Ibori, there was a beehive in delta state celebrating his return to the mainstream society and a lot of controversies have being adduced.

Before this incident, it is no longer news Nigerians have a dearth of character. It is no surprise Donald Trump during his campaign said a lot of things about how we treat corrupt politicians.

The argument has been that, he and some members of his family were found to be corrupt, therefore served their time according to the interpretations of the law. But should he be celebrated for looting $18million of tax payers money, definitely; no.

Personally am happy he did not die, because that would have been to easy for him and every convict deserves a chance to reintegrate back into the society, I believe that as well.


But has anybody sat down to think what $18million dollars would have done to the people of delta state?  For carrying out loud,  this money, the worst it could have been used for is to give the millants to appease them for a while. We are not talking countless government primary and secondary schools, health facilities, environmental protection initiative that could have being implemented etc with such amount of money.


I want to believe people celebrating his release are political allies who benefitted during his adminstration, because I can't phantom an average deltan celebrating this man. This is the same society that killed a 7 year old boy for stealing yam. I wonder what values we place on this society.
