The Buhari Administration; Four Years After

If you aren't from Nigeria, the news of Boko haram attacks in some parts of Nigeria must have hit your airwaves from time to time. While the president of Nigeria love to state that that the terrorist organization has been technically defeated, a lot remains to be seen if these attacks will one day seize to occur.

As the President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari celebrates another term in office after ousting the former Vice President of Nigeria in the just concluded 2019 elections. It is a time to respect the people's decision and focus on what the Buhari administration has done for Nigerians and what it hopes to do in this coming dispensation.

In the space of 4 years, we Nigerians have seen our borders shut to curtail the effect of smuggling from neighboring African countries and the promotion of buying local content over foreign ones.

It was a time where 41 items that were draining our foreign reserves were barred from coming into the country, and the promotion of agriculture became a center stage of the FG. It is a time of interest-free loans to farmers, fewer jobs for graduates, and more hunger in the country.

The Buhari administration has cast aside popular economic principles aside and gone for a more consolatory or conservative approach in playing with the livelihood of Nigerians. Today, the country's currency is at an all-time high against the dollar at 360/$.

The recent closing of the Nigerian bother smells doom for the citizenry because of the high cost of some items like rice which the demand for is higher than what the local market can provide. While it is a good thing to close the border in order to curtail smuggling, it could mean the country is losing out on huge revenue that could come from the borders daily. Trying to control the price of rice after closing the border is like shooting your self in the foot because it will only lead to hoarding from local rice producers.

The reappointment of underperforming ministers from the first administration is something to look into as well, We believe since that since the executive and the legislative leaders are from the All Progressive Congress ( APC), policies will sail smoothly than the last 4 years.
